Artist Statement: For my plan, I had no intention on making meanings to my painting. I knew I didn't want to make white women because there is so many every where and I really want WOC represented in my artwork. All I wanted to do was to hurry up and paint. I drew a sketch, called it good and went on my way to paint it. As I painted this, I tried to come up with a story, but I failed to do so. Now that I look my painting, it looks somewhat like my oc, Rachel MacTavish. She is what all I ever wanted to be. I guess the message/story of this is piece is that green background is the world/humans. People will talk sh*t about you and say nasty things behind your back. Her sassy expression represents that she doesn't give a flying f*** about what people say. Her yellow dress represents the hope she has for life and for herself in general.

Lifeless Soul
|
Artist Statement: Typically from what I've seen in movies, TV shows and social media in general, they make one gays die and don't give them the happy ending. The heterosexual couple ends up with the happy ending while they make the gays have a sad ending with them both dying or the partner dying. I hate that they can't have a happy ending. In this piece, the gays get their happy ending. They found each other and they are happy together.
While creating this piece, I wanted to portray people of color and people of color who are in the LGBT community. The girl on the left is a Latina and the girl on the right is Korean and plus size. I also gave the Korean girl leg hair because women are "suppose to" shave their body hair because they are women and that women "shouldn't" be hairy or have hair which is ridiculous. |
Artist Statement: During my birthday last year, I finally got a drawing tablet. I had no drawing programs so instead, I used MS Paint to test out and making drawings such as the one here. This drawing in particular is of my OC, Rachel MacTavish. This is her portrait shot taken by her boyfriend while she's not paying attention. Rachel MacTavish is better me. She's the me that is prettier, can speak Spanish, has a significant other and has a healthy body. A few of her flaws are her depression, eating disorder and lack of confidence. Although she has a supporting boyfriend whom loves her dearly and cares about her, she always second guesses herself. She tries her very best to remain positive, but it's so difficult when you've put yourself down for a long period of time.

Traditional In My Own Way
|
Artist Statement: In this piece, I wanted to get out how you are entitled to your own body and no one else is entitled to your body. I made this specifically towards women because in society today, men think they can do whatever to a woman's body and have control over a woman's body. Such as having control whether or not a woman can have an abortion. (Or saying can wear this, but if she wears this than she's a whore/slut etc. Or if you dress this certain way, you're a slut/whore.) Regardless whether or not you believe abortion is wrong or not, it is the choice of the woman. It is her body and it is her choice on what she chooses to do with her body. I wish folks to realize that and accept that because you cannot control someone else's body because it is not yours. I also created this for abuse victims and rape victims. Your body will forever be yours and it will not ever belong to the abuser/rapist.
