Project 3: Caribbean Dream
paper, watercolor, & ink
Painting
2016
Artist Statement: For my plan, I had no idea what to do. I had so many ideas such as a coral reef or space. I also wanted to do a merman, but the sketch was a flop. I made little different sketches on a paper and one of them involved the dolphin. I drew it because my mom said that she'd wanted me to make a dolphin. I made another sketch having in mind a woman doing a bold pose with her foot prop on a skull. I then began to look at beaches and Caribbean fashion and my idea for this piece was birthed. I also added the dolphin to the idea which made it perfect. Nothing really inspires me to draw, I just do it because I love it. When I look at this piece, I see this pretty biracial girl being carefree and beautiful at the beach. Her dream is to feel beautiful and carefree.
